Our Methodology

What is the AI Answer Readiness Score (AARS)?

The AI Answer Readiness Score (AARS) is a single 0 to 100 score that shows how ready AI engines are to understand, trust, and recommend your business. It averages four equal pillars: Brand Clarity, Competitive Positioning, Technical Infrastructure, and Revenue Impact. Every AI Search Rankings engagement starts with it and is measured against it.

Key Takeaways

Five things to know about the AI Answer Readiness Score

  • One number, four parts. The score runs from 0 to 100 and averages Brand Clarity, Competitive Positioning, Technical Infrastructure, and Revenue Impact.
  • Every pillar counts the same. Each one is 25 percent, so a strong website cannot hide a brand that AI does not recognize.
  • It shows what to fix first. The lowest pillar is the first priority, because it holds the whole score down.
  • It measures readiness, not rank. No AI engine publishes a rank. We measure real AI answers separately, with AI Visibility Tracking.
  • It never guesses. If a pillar does not finish, the report shows no score for it and offers a retry.

The Four Pillars

What does the AI Answer Readiness Score measure?

Each pillar answers one question an AI engine has to settle before it recommends a business. Each pillar is scored from 0 to 100.

Brand Clarity

Does AI know who you are and what you do?

How clearly an AI engine can identify your business, describe what you do, and say who you serve.

What it looks at

  • Whether AI can name your industry, your location, and your company size
  • How clearly AI can describe what you do, who you serve, and what you sell
  • How confident AI is that your business is one distinct entity
  • The strength of your brand and of your online presence
  • The outside sources that would help AI understand you
  • The words AI uses to classify your business

What a low score usually means

AI describes you vaguely, mixes you up with another business, or cannot place you in a category.

Schema and entity SEO

Competitive Positioning

When AI compares your category, where do you stand?

How visible you are to AI compared with the competitors AI connects to your category.

What it looks at

  • Your AI visibility compared with your category
  • Your market position and the gap to the leaders
  • Your share of voice when AI talks about your category
  • The competitors AI connects with you in ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Perplexity
  • Your advantages, and the gaps a competitor can use against you

These figures are AI estimates, not counts of live answers. To count real answers, we use AI Visibility Tracking.

What a low score usually means

AI knows your competitors better than it knows you, so it names them first.

Answer Engine Optimization

Technical Infrastructure

Can AI read, understand, and trust your website?

How well your website gives AI engines clean, structured facts they can reach and rely on.

What it looks at

  • Your schema markup and the quality of your structured data
  • Whether AI and search crawlers can reach your pages
  • Page speed and mobile readiness
  • How well your site is prepared for AI answers
  • The technical issues that block AI, ranked by priority

This is a site level assessment. To check one page in depth, use the page level audit.

What a low score usually means

Your site hides facts from AI through missing schema, blocked pages, or slow pages.

Technical SEO

Revenue Impact

What can better AI visibility be worth to you?

How strongly AI search can turn into traffic, leads, and revenue for your business.

What it looks at

  • The size of your revenue opportunity from AI search
  • Your potential for more traffic and more conversions
  • How long improvements usually take to pay back
  • The level of investment the work needs
  • The risks to the plan and the measures that prove progress

Dollar figures in the report are planning estimates, not forecasts or guarantees.

What a low score usually means

The path from AI visibility to revenue is unclear, or little is at stake in AI search today.

How we measure results

The Math

How is the AI Answer Readiness Score calculated?

Each pillar is scored from 0 to 100. The AARS is the average of the four, rounded to a whole number. No pillar counts more than another.

AARS = (Brand Clarity + Competitive Positioning + Technical Infrastructure + Revenue Impact) ÷ 4

Worked example (sample numbers, not a client result)

Competitive Positioning58
Technical Infrastructure64

AI cannot reliably find, describe, or recommend your business.

First step: Start with the basics: who you are, what you do, and where you serve.

Honest Limits

What does the AI Answer Readiness Score not measure?

A score is only useful if you know its limits. These are ours.

  • It is not a ranking. No AI engine publishes a rank, so we never report one. The score measures readiness.

  • It does not count live AI answers. AI Visibility Tracking does that, by asking AI engines real buyer questions and storing every answer.

  • It is not a forecast. Revenue figures are planning estimates that help you decide what to fix first.

  • It is not a guarantee. AI engines decide what they cite. We improve clarity, trust, and readiness, and we measure the result.

  • It can move between two runs. AI engines change what they know and how they answer. We compare scores over time, not one reading.

  • A pillar that does not finish shows no score. If an analysis does not complete, the report says so and offers a retry. It never fills the gap with a guess.

Compare

How is the AARS different from our other AI visibility measures?

We measure three different things. The AARS plans the work, and AI Visibility Tracking proves it.

AI Answer Readiness Score How ready is my business to be understood, trusted, and recommended by AI? An AI engine assesses four pillars. The score is the average of the four. Before work starts, and at every re-audit.

AI Visibility Tracking Do AI engines name my business when buyers ask? Asks ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Google AI Mode real buyer questions and stores every answer. Code, not a model, decides whether you were named. Every month of an engagement.

In Every Engagement

How does AI Search Rankings use the AARS with clients?

The score is the fixed point every engagement is measured against. This is the order we work in.

  1. Set the baseline

We run the AARS before any work starts, so every later change has a fixed point to compare with.

  2. Fix the weakest pillar first

Equal weights mean the lowest pillar holds the whole score down, so it gets attention first.

  3. Implement the plan

We make the changes through the 90-Day AEO Sprint or a monthly package, and you approve the work.

  4. Re-audit and compare

We run the AARS again and compare each pillar with the baseline, so progress is visible, not claimed.

  5. Prove it with real answers

AI Visibility Tracking records whether AI engines now name you for the questions your buyers ask.

FAQ

AI Answer Readiness Score questions

What is the AI Answer Readiness Score (AARS)?

The AI Answer Readiness Score (AARS) is a single 0 to 100 score that shows how ready AI engines are to understand, trust, and recommend your business. It averages four equal pillars: Brand Clarity, Competitive Positioning, Technical Infrastructure, and Revenue Impact. Every AI Search Rankings engagement starts with it and is measured against it.

How is the AI Answer Readiness Score calculated?

Each of the four pillars is scored from 0 to 100. The AARS is the average of the four, rounded to a whole number. Every pillar carries the same weight, 25 percent, so one strong pillar cannot hide a weak one.

What is a good AI Answer Readiness Score?

A score of 80 or higher is Excellent. 60 to 79 is Good, 40 to 59 Needs Improvement, and below 40 is Critical Priority. The pillar scores matter as much as the total, because the lowest pillar shows what to fix first.

How long does the AARS audit take, and is it free?

The site level audit usually takes one to two minutes, and it is free. Your overall score and the first two pillars appear right away. The full report, with all four pillars, opens when you share your contact details.

Does a high AARS guarantee that AI will cite my business?

No. AI engines decide what they cite, and nobody can guarantee a citation. A higher score means AI engines have clearer, more trustworthy facts about you, which makes a recommendation more likely. We measure the real outcome with AI Visibility Tracking.

Why can my score change between two runs?

AI engines change what they know and how they answer, so two runs can differ by a few points. That is why we compare pillar scores over time against a fixed baseline, instead of reading one number on its own.

Which AI engine produces the score?

Google Gemini assesses each of the four pillars. The real outcome is then measured separately, by asking ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Google AI Mode the questions your buyers ask.

How is the AARS different from AI Visibility Tracking?

The AARS measures readiness: how well AI can understand, trust, and recommend you. AI Visibility Tracking measures the outcome: whether AI engines actually name you when buyers ask. We use the first to plan the work and the second to prove it.
